Debate Ensues Over Timothy Hill Tunnel Naming

The Timothy Hill Tunnel was opened mid last year and was started under the Labour government of Denzil Douglas. Because the project was started under Douglas, many Labour supporters want the tunnel to be named in his honor as the “Denzil Douglas Tunnel”. They cite that the road the tunnel exists on is named in honor of former Prime Minister Kennedy Simmonds, and so the tunnel should honor Douglas.

Initially many Unity supporters agreed in a rare expression of agreement between the Unity and Labour supporters. Unity supporters stated that the tunnel was not needed, over priced, a big boondoggle, and since it had no lighting installed was dark and shady.

But now that lights are finally being installed nearly a year later, Unity supporters have changed their tune and suggest instead the tunnel name remain simply as “Timothy Hill Tunnel”, or shortened to “Timothy Tunnel”
